Diving into an Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have discovered a variety of interesting creations from small studios. But, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game features a character that is truly a piece of poop striving to navigate to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is simple: just use a single jump button. Across numerous challenges, you'll face tough enemies and unlock a store to acquire customizations for your dung hero.

Plan your actions with caution, as a wrong move requires beginning again. Leap on air pockets to hurl your character upward, traverse fragile platforms, and activate triggers to open hidden paths. Collect currency and use them on more difficult stages as the action gets crazy.

Graphically, the game boasts vibrant level designs and a killer background music. Its minimalist visual style with shifting basic polygons could recall fans of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's hard to name other games where you play as a piece of feces, interactive entertainment have long featured scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can make grenades from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as plant food. Unsurprisingly, such content shows up heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already earned notable recognition, like being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is accessible currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to debut on Steam this November.
