Previous Federal Bureau of Investigation head James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to giving untrue testimony to lawmakers and obstructing a congressional proceeding.

The former director's legal representative submitted the plea representing him in a federal court in the Virginia city of Alexandria on Wednesday.

Patrick Fitzgerald stated he would attempt to have the proceedings thrown out for various causes including that his the accused, a critic of former President Trump, was being singled out.

James Comey was formally accused shortly after the former president pushed his attorney general to proceed against him.

Judicial Process

At the proceedings on Wednesday, his attorney the legal representative informed the judge they intended to file multiple motions to terminate the case before a court case, claiming the government's case was retaliatory and that a US attorney was improperly assigned to assume control of the proceedings.

James Comey's legal matter was originally overseen by the original attorney, who left his position under pressure from the former president after his examination into a different political adversary - the New York official - was unable to initiate prosecution.

Judicial Environment

James Comey came across in positive mood as he came into the courtroom on mid-week, speaking with his lawyers and sharing humor. He was accompanied by his partner, Mrs Failor and child Maureen Comey, a US lawyer who the previous administration recently fired.

Following the reading to the judge read his rights and the dual charges against him in legal proceedings on Wednesday, the defendant was questioned if he grasped the accusations.

"I do your honour. Appreciate it," he stated to the proceedings.

Previous Events

Mr Comey was the head of the FBI from 2013 to 2017 and was fired about four months into Trump's first administration as commander-in-chief. At the time, Mr Comey was overseeing an examination into foreign election meddling and whether there were any relationships between the Russian government and the election effort.

During his tenure, Mr Comey triggered a counter-response from liberal politicians when he announced just shortly prior to the 2016 election that he was examining political contender the candidate's use of a personal email system. Legal actions against Clinton were not pursued, resulting in criticism from Republicans as well.

Ongoing Accusations

The federal government claim the former director lied to US lawmakers during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in recent years when he was being questioned about both the email probe as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They allege he misled the Senate by saying he had not authorized an individual at the FBI to leak to news outlets information about the government examinations.

Legal representatives also charge the defendant of "improperly attempting to affect, block and impede" the panel by providing untrue information to it.

Personal Comments

Via social media the former director shared to his online platform after he was accused, he said he was wrongly accused and accused Trump of conducting himself like a "autocrat".

"We have understood for a long time that there are costs to standing up to Mr Trump," he commented. "We refuse to live on our knees."
"I have done nothing wrong," he added. "Thus initiate a trial."

The charges against Mr Comey emerged after Trump published on digital channels insisting on his top legal official, the attorney general, prosecute the former director and other people.
